Dysport® is a botulinum toxin, FDA-approved, dermal injection similar to BOTOX®. The Dysport® injection is a natural-looking, fast-acting, long-lasting prescription injection. This product helps smooth moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows without altering the appearance or movement of your face. Since Dysport® diffuses well on large areas, it is most commonly used to reduce horizontal lines on the forehead. It is often used to treat crow’s feet and vertical “frown lines,” also known as “11s,” between the brows.
Dysport® blocks communication between the nerve and muscle, which causes lines to appear on the skin. When the muscle is unable to contract, the overlying skin smoothes out. How does it work?
FDA-approved since 2009, Dysport® has been subjected to rigorous clinical testing for over 25 years. This simple, effective, minimally invasive treatment relaxes the facial muscles on your forehead, reducing frown lines and wrinkles. It works by temporarily reducing the activity of specific muscles in the area between the eyebrows in order to reduce moderate to severe frown lines. Repeated movement and muscle contractions cause wrinkles. Each injection between and above the eyebrows temporarily prevents muscle contractions that cause frown lines. You get natural-looking results that look and feel like you have no injections at all.
During your treatment, you will first be disinfected with rubbing alcohol in the treatment area, and a topical anesthetic will be applied if your tolerance to pain is low. After injecting it into the target muscle, the injector will apply a cold compress to minimize redness and swelling. Most people see improvement in two to three days after treatment. Dysport® can erase the look of your frown lines between the eyebrows in just 10-20 minutes! It lasts for up to five months.

Dysport® and BOTOX® are both made from botulinum toxin type A. The main difference between Dysport® and BOTOX® is that Dysport® spreads more quickly and is more diluted. With a wider range of motion, it’s a good choice for larger areas, like the forehead. It also works much faster than BOTOX®; you don’t have to wait almost a week for it to activate.
Are there any side effects?
Dysport® is FDA-approved and very safe. But as with any medication, side effects are possible. The most common side effects of Dysport® are headaches, mild bruising, and discomfort at the injection site. Is Dysport® effective for excessive sweating?
Yes, Dysport® can be injected under the arms to reduce excessive sweating. Similar to BOTOX®, Dysport® injections prevent excessive sweating by blocking nerves that supply sweat glands.
What is downtime like?
There is no downtime and very little recovery time associated with Dysport®. After your treatment, you can go about your daily routine. Avoid extremely hot showers, steam rooms, tanning beds, and heavy exercise for a couple of days.
